Registration
for this event is now closed as of 11:59PM on July 30th
Chance Encounters at the Rubin Museum of Art (150 West 17th St., NYC), will be held on Friday,
July 31, 2009 at 6:30pm. Chance Encounters is an innovative approach to making love connections. It is essentially organized
mingling. Participants wearing coded t-shirts mingle, have drinks in the K2
Lounge (in the lobby) and slowly move throughout the museum in a kind of “human scavenger hunt.”
As they run into other t-shirt wearers (of the opposite sex) bearing letters with similar colors based on age categories,
they will discreetly introduce themselves and continue viewing exhibits. The museum exhibits are free to the public after
7pm on Fridays.
Shirts will either have a large letter
A for female or B for male. The letters will
be color coded to reflect whether the wearer is in their 20’s, 30’s, 40’s, 50’s, or 60’s. For
example, singles in their flirtatious 50’s may have green letters, whereas those in the roaring 20’s may sport red. During the evening,
singles return to the organizer’s table in the K2 Lounge. They hand in a card with the names of all the singles in their
category and indicate which ones they would like to see again.
Adults
of all ages, races and persuasions are encouraged to participate. A t-shirt can be purchased for
$5 (at cost). T-shirts will
be available at the organizer’s table on the evening of the event or can be picked up on July
27th at Penn Fleming (255 West 36th Street, Suite 838B, NYC) from 12noon-6pm.
